I read “Your Perfect Presentation” recently. The author (Bill Hoogterp) said that he would rate people’s speaking performance in business meetings which averaged about a 4 out of 10. He said their, “not bad, but not good” adding that they coast on their talent and intelligence and have had very little actual speaking training. He saw much more potential in them.
I totally agree and in my book Fear Driven Speech I talk about the same reality I experienced while serving in the Air Force. Guys are really good at their jobs and presentation skills in most cases are left out of their personal professional development priority list.
Do you have developing your public speaking skills listed in your professional development priority list?
