“I decided to throw out all my own presumptions about professionalism, military bearing, respect for others, etc. and find who I was and how I was going to be funny and entertaining because that’s what Sergeant Baker did.”
I performed much better teaching my second class. In those six weeks, I achieved some major adjustments because of sitting through Sergeant Baker’s first week of training and convincing myself that my fearful ideas weren’t helping me perform. I settled down and taught one lesson at a time, got to know my students, and started getting to know myself in the classroom.
This is a snapshot from my book Fear Driven Speech and it has me thinking.
How do we get where we are and find that all progress has stopped?
In the above paragraphs is the result of me realizing that I was the CEO of LieToMyself.com and that’s not where I wanted to be.

People tell themselves all kinds of false stories. Drama. Sometimes we get a glimpse of these false ideas when someone is in an agreement or disagreement with someone. “That’s why you’re better than me. You’ll always be better than me, won’t you?”
Another example is internal and far more sinister. A person might tell themself that they must show people their tittle to earn respect from their superiors, subordinates, and peers. This one can be terribly damaging.
I guess the point is, we need to acknowledge that there are some ideas that we apply to ourselves that not only aren’t true, but that our close friends and family, our business associates and acquaintances would completely disagree with if they knew.
When you can let go of these false ideas, you gain freedom and access to a level of success previously unattainable.
